Lago Calima, a perfect scenario

Lake Calima is a landmark of the Valle del Cauca, where wind, water and landscapes beckon thousands of tourists to enjoy the recreation and contemplation of breathtaking landscapes every weekend. The small town of Calima is located in the western Valle del Cauca center 90 miles from Santiago de Cali at an altitude of 1486 m, and with an average temperature of 22 ° C.

Renowned Lake Calima is actually a reservoir (man-made lake) built in 1964 for hydro-electric power generation. The lake measures about 13 kilometers long by 4 km wide. Due to the scenic beauty of the reservoir (lake) the traditional design of most of the rural homes is Swiss chalet style. On Lake Calima, one can find a great varietyof tourist facilities, particularly nautical and adventure sport schools such as windsurfing, kite surfing, Sunfish and Canoeing.

Al lago Calima se le atribuye poseer los terceros mejores vientos en el mundo y durante los 365 días del año, siendo ideales para la práctica de deportes náuticos a  vela, por lo cual allí se han dado cita competencias internacionales de deportes como Windsurf, Kitesurf y Sunfish. De igual manera se practican otros deportes como el Catamarán, Lasser, Optimist, Canotaje, Motonáutica, Buceo y Esqui náutico, entre otros.
